Let’s start by looking at the numbers. This year there were 60 yachts on show with a total L.O.A. of 2,653m and an average of 44,21 m. A positive development in comparison to the 53 yachts and the total of 2,521m in 2018.
Their total gross tonnage was 29,464 and the quality of the vessels spoke volumes! The accumulated charter rate was €11.486.500, with the average charter rate of €194.686.
The exhibitor stands were manned by 502 dedicated members of staff, with 138 of them belonging to our list of ‘Loyal Exhibitors’ – those that have participated in 10 or more MYBA Charter Shows before 2016 and in at least one from 2011 to 2016. In 2018 there were 494 members of staff manning the exhibitors stands, a very small difference versus this year, so it does indeed seem that the Show enjoys loyal support and many exhibitors are returning, an indication that it is indeed good for business!
The total number of attendees was 2,074 of whom 518 were charter brokers and central agents. 167 out of the 518 were MYBA Members. Also, on board were 616 Captains and crew, who worked tirelessly to ensure that everything was shipshape, and 65 members of the press who made sure that the event was well documented. The total number of attendees in 2018 was 1,885 so we can safely say that the Show’s audience is also growing even though the acceptance criteria remains as strict as usual.
Marta Iglesias, MYBA Charter Show Consultant, commented on the importance of the quality of the Show’s attendees: “In today’s market, where clients can access extensive information with the click of a button, their expectations towards a lifetime experience can only be met by the deep knowledge of the true superyacht professionals. The MYBA Charter Show is the annual event where all this professional expertise is shared and enhanced amongst attendees. With carefully curated superyachts as the focal point, vetted brokers, central agents and exhibitors get together for four days of intense networking to ensure that all the requirements for the ultimate client experience are met. The 2019 MYBA Charter Show will soon prove that it is, once again, the launching platform for a successful charter season.”
Branding, communication, and all touchpoints, were designed to enhance the total experience and the holistic journey that the Show aims to offer. And it also succeeded in capturing a broader audience’s attention via MYBA’s social media channels. An indication of the online ‘chatter’ that surrounded the event was provided by Instagram where, with 13,000 followers, the Show scored more than 61,000 impressions in just one week.
During the Show, MYBA The Worldwide Yachting Association and OneOcean Port Vell also announced that they have agreed to renew their collaboration for the next two years as far as the hosting of the MYBA Charter Show is concerned. This means that the MYBA Charter Show will be returning to OneOcean Port Vell for both 2020 and 2021. The MYBA Charter Show is the first major event of the superyacht season for the charter sector and it is owing to the world-class facilities of OneOcean Port Vell, a marina that can cater to a Show of this calibre and size, that MYBA has chosen to celebrate the next two editions at this port.
It was a spectacular Show and we believe that it will play a pivotal role in securing bookings and generating charter revenue. Thank you to everyone who was a part of it, and we look forward to seeing you again at OneOcean Port Vell from 27 to 30 April 2020!
